Fr. Eugene O’Neill, Parish Priest
Fr Eugene was Administrator of St Patrick’s from 2016 to 2022, when he became Parish Priest. He has a long association with the Parish, his grandmother lived here in the early 1920’s and he fondly remembers St Malachy’s Day Celebrations here when he was a schoolboy in St Malachy’s College.
Fr. Tony McAleese, Curate and Mater Hospital Chaplain
Fr Tony was ordained by Bishop Noel Treanor in the Church of St Vincent de Paul in Ligoniel in June 2018. He is the first priest originally from the parish to be ordained there in 50 years. Fr Tony received his primary education at St Vincent de Paul Primary School, before continuing his education at St Gabriel’s College from 1995 to 2000 and Belfast Metropolitan College from 2010 to 2012. He worked in the field of catering management from 2000 to 2012 when he commenced his seminary formation. Fr Tony studied philosophy at Queen’s University College, Belfast, and theology at St Patrick’s Pontifical University, Maynooth.
He has also worked in hospital and parish ministry in various parishes including St Agnes’ Parish, Belfast and the parishes of Downpatrick and Carrickfergus, and has also completed a hospital chaplaincy course. Fr Tony was appointed Hospital Chaplain in the Mater Hospital and curate to St Patrick’s in October 2018.
